Route running in American football
Routes include both the distance and the direction that the receiver should run. For example, the receiver may run 10 yards up the field and then turn to the sidelines. It is important for the reviver, running back or tight end to run these routes correctly s the quarter back is expecting them to be in a certain place at a certain time. If the receiver runs their route correctly then the Quaterback can lead the ball to where they are going to be, allowing the receiver to adjust to the ball if they are off.
