This play would usually be used to gain large amounts of yards and to drive the ball down the field.

This play would be used usually on downs such as 3rd and 10

This play is made so that the receivers get far down the feild, pulling the defenders back with them away from the quater back. Meaning that if there is no one for the Quaterback to throw to then he can run and potentially gain a first down as most of the defenders have been brought up field to try and stop the deep ball, leaving majority of the middle field open.
